I’ve been working with strain gages since 2003, for both academic and industrial purposes. I have worked on instrumentation design, sensor specification, Wheatstone topology selection, application on the DUT, and electronic instrumentation (conditioning circuits) for strain gages.
The most exciting DUT I had were a titanium prosthesis and a pipe at a thermoelectric plant (40 days after shutoff for maintenance, it was still warm). Apart from that, I’m always super excited about the benefits of using strain gages. And yes, I can talk for hours in order to convincing people that a fastidious care on strain gage application is essential.
